The Stray Cats’ official “Cat’s Head” logo was developed by the rockabilly legends with the help of tattoo artist Bob Roberts in a New York City tattoo parlor in 1980. Its slick-backed pompadour is still synonymous with the music written by guitarist Brian Setzer under the influence of the sounds of Memphis’ early Sun Records recordings.
 
Setzer and the Stray Cats capitalized on their modern interpretation of that rockabilly sound with their 1981 self-titled debut, which first found success in the U.K., where their pompadours and leather jackets were back in style. In fact, early copies of the debut album also came with temporary tattoos of the “Cat’s Head” as well.
