Lucifer The Fallen Angel

Story

This evocative portrayal draws inspiration from the enduring archetype of Lucifer, the morning star whose pride precipitated his fall from grace, a narrative deeply embedded in Western theology and Western art history. Much like Guillaume Geefs’ iconic sculpture "Le génie du mal," this piece captures the angel not in the heat of insurrection, but in a moment of profound, melancholic introspection following his expulsion from the celestial realm. His posture, heavy with the weight of exile, invites the viewer to contemplate the human condition through the lens of divine tragedy, echoing the Romantic fascination with the anti-hero. This depiction belongs to the themes of classical mythology, religious iconography, and the brooding, atmospheric aesthetic of Gothic Romanticism, serving as a solemn meditation on rebellion, remorse, and the eternal struggle between light and shadow.

Spanish Sculptor Ricardo Bellver became famous because of his sculpture The Fallen Angel in 1877, which represents Lucifer falling from Heaven. Its great dramatism and originality won him the First Medal at the Spanish National Fine Arts Exhibition in 1878, and was casted in bronze for the third Paris World's Fair. This statue is beautifully designed, sculpted and handcrafted to the finest detail in cold cast metal (Bronze/pewter) finish.
