Roman Greek Hoplite sword - Greek Hoplites were citizen-soldiers known for their toughness in battle. Their sword was highly effective in close quarters combat. The design of the Roman Gladius is based in part on the leaf-shaped blade design of this sword which was later incorporated by the Romans in the design of their Gladius, the famous sword used by the Roman Army and the gladiators who fought to the death in the Roman Coliseum. The sword features a simple subtly convex handle that makes for an effective grip. A round pommel acts as a counterweight to the blades balance, while the guard is little more than a simple t-bar. The swords blade is a straight edge that curves near the tip to form a rounded point. The sword has an overall length of 27 inches. Includes customer scabbard.
