Khnum The Egyptian God Of Water And Procreation
Khnum was one of the most ancient Egyptian deities, evidence of his worship can be traced back to as early as the 1st dynasty. Originally believed to be a water deity of the Niles, over time he morphed into the god of creation due to the power of water granting life to its surroundings, water’s association with clay also became Khnum’s method of creation, specifically the creation of human child using clay and a potter’s wheel. Khnum was often depicted as a man with a head of a ram, with the ram having a pair of horizontal twisting horns.
