Hermes was the son of Zeus and the nymph Maia, the daughters of the Titan Atlas. Hermes is the messenger of the gods in Greek mythology, he is able to travel quickly between the worlds of god and man aided by his winged sandals. He is the protector of shepherds, travelers, thieves, merchants, and the conductor of souls to the underworld. The winged helmet that Hermes wore is called the Helm of Hades, or the cap of invisibility, it has the power to turn its wearer invisible. The helm was crafted by the cyclops and gifted to Hades when Zeus released them from Tartarus. The helmet was used by many gods and demigods to aid their personal quests, including Athena and Perseus.
