White Parliament Shirt
George Clinton’s funk pioneers Parliament found their most mainstream success in the mid-1970s, with a sequence of albums that started with Mothership Connection (1975) up to Motor Booty Affair (1978) which included the #1 R&B hit “Aqua Boogie (A Psychoalphadiscobetabioaquadoloop).” Between his work with Parliament and the more rock-oriented Funkadelic, with bassist Bootsy Collins, Clinton reigned as the king of the genre.
Clinton’s friend, the artist Overton Lloyd, designed the cover for Motor Booty Affair, which included distinct illustrations of the characters depicted in the album’s songs, like track one’s “Mr. Wiggles.” In addition to the LP’s artwork, Lloyd also designed the costumes, based on his illustrations, that Parliament’s members wore on the album’s supporting tour.
